Autumn/winter 2017 is going to shine! This season accessories are elevated to new heights, taking centre stage with statement earrings, layer upon layer of necklaces and pendants, and a smack of overstated glamour.
We’ve got the three top accessories trends for autumn/winter 2017 hot off the catwalks to see you through the cooler months.
Trend 1: Statement earrings
Earlobes are getting a workout this season, as fashion’s It Girls embrace the mantra ‘more is more’.
Bold earrings and ear cuffs in heavy metal, thick fabrics, dangly jewels and oversized gemstones were a feature of the catwalks of Paris and New York, as well as on the red carpet this awards season.
Hoops are in, but they had better be big enough for a small circus animal to jump through.
Tip: Statement earrings pack the biggest punch against a blank canvas, so keep hair simple, tied back in a ponytail or straight and shiny, a la Kardashian.
Trend 2: Multi-layered necklaces
Why wear your favourite necklace when you can wear seven? That’s the philosophy referenced in this autumn/winter 2017 accessories trend.
Valentino showed two, three and four tiers of cascading heavy metal, McQueen had layers of chains, and Chanel featured strand upon strand of its trademark pearls.
But don’t be afraid to mix genres – try combining chunky pearls with glamorous jewel-encrusted pieces, and lots and lots of heavy metal.
Tip: When you are wearing so much bling you don’t need much else. Team the multi-stranded necklace look with a classic white shirt or simple strappy cami.
Trend 3: Tiny bags
While jewellery is getting bigger, expect your handbags to get smaller.
They shrunk last season but at the autumn/winter 2017 collections, positively teeny handbags featured in the collections of Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui and Michael Kors, as well as on the arms of many front row influencers.
Bags with cross body straps are right on trend and they are most likely boxy or geometric in shape. However, small is also the trend for backpacks, satchel bags and clutches.
The standout style of this season is embellishment. Think quirky patterns, gemstone adornments and multiple textures.
Tip: Dare to put your own personal stamp on your statement mini bag by attaching chunky or fluffy key-chains.
