The latest showings from international catwalks have fashion enthusiasts around the world seeing red – and they will have you seeing red too.
When Fendi sent Kendall Jenner down the catwalk in a scarlet coat paired with a matching bag and boots, fashion editors paid attention; days later at Max Mara, where Gigi Hadid hit the catwalk in a crimson high-neck top and matching skirt, coat and shoes, they let out a collective gasp.
But when Givenchy unveiled an all-red collection, the message was clear. This season we’ll all want to be ladies in red.
And, as is always the case, what hits the catwalks in Paris soon trickles down to the High Street – and as is also always the case, Camberwell shopping precinct is right on it.
Camberwell’s stores have come alive with the colour red, with fashion-forward brands Cue, Country Road, Sussan and Trenery already stocked with on-trend red combinations to suit every style and every budget.
How to do the colour red this season
As the weather warms up, the colour red will be everywhere: at the office, in the gym and every Spring Racing Carnival event and holiday celebration.
The shade of red you wear says a lot about the attitude you’re wearing that day.
Bright, fire engine red can mean strong, sexy, don’t-mess-with-me (think: Gigi and Bella); while dark red or crimson shades are more serious and regal (think: Kate Middleton).
The full spectrum of red will be on show this spring/summer – traffic light red, crisp watermelons, deep maroon – but to be really on-trend this season, try choosing orange reds or bright ruby.
Traditionally, a red item would be the hero piece of the outfit and teamed with plain white, black or muted tones. Not this season. Boost the power of red with orange, blue, or fuchsia.
And you know what they say about never wearing pink and red? Forget it, because you can, and this season you will.
If you’re feeling bold, rock the all-red look by teaming a flirty red sundress with a red blazer (fashion tip: the blazer is back big time – if you don’t have one already, buy one today), the all-red jumpsuit or un-patterned red dress.
Bonus points if you add tinted sunglasses, scarves, heels and handbags.
The colour will also be a hot favourite for makeup looks this season – think bold lips in bright hues of red. Choose from lipsticks in deep shades of cherry, crimson and ruby, through to orange and coral red tones, available at Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and Mecca Cosmetica in Camberwell.
